February Communion, Fasting & Prayer

Posted on: January 17th, 2019

You are invited to intentionally enter a season of connection during February through communion, fasting and prayer as we seek direction and guidance for our individual concerns as well as for the called General Conference on February 23-26. The focus of this special February session of General Conference is to receive and act on a report provided by the Commission on A Way Forward, a group authorized to examine paragraphs in the UMC Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and to explore options to strengthen the unity of the church.

As February 23 draws near, Rev. Allyson Lawrence invites you to join her in fasting and prayer. Fasting reminds us that we depend entirely upon God. Rev. Lawrence will be fasting from food from sundown on Thursdays through mid afternoon on Fridays. Then, at 5:30 p.m. each Friday, a service of holy communion in the chapel will be held to break the fast. If a Friday fast does not work for you, choose a day that does. And if you cannot fast from food, perhaps there is something else from which you can fast such as social media or other distractions.
